Albuquerque Sports
Enthusiastic support is given to both our collegiate and professional
teams and to the many sports events held in our city. The most popular
spectator sport in Albuquerque is UNM basketball. Attendance averages
more than 18,000 per game. This LOBO team is nationally ranked, and
is a member of the Western Athletic Conference. Many sports fans also

Albuquerque is very proud to have our own semi-professional hockey team,
the New Mexico Scorpions, whose season runs from October through March.

Horse racing is another favorite, with tracks not only in Albuquerque
but in many of the surrounding areas as well, making this a year round
sport.
Hot air ballooning is Albuquerque's most famous outdoor activity. The
annual Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta® is held the first full week of
October and has over 800 hot air balloons participating, making it one
of the largest air shows in the world. From the special shapes rodeo
to the balloon glows that light up the night skies, this is an event
for everyone to enjoy.
There are more than 52 state parks and monuments, 21 wilderness areas,
11 national parks and monuments in New Mexico, and more than 150 developed
city parks in Albuquerque.
