Albuquerque Location
Albuquerque is surrounded by the natural beauty of the Sandia Mountains
on the east, several volcanic cones on the west, and the beautiful mesas
bordering the Rio Grande River on the north, west, and south. Linking
the city together are two major highways, I-25 and I-40, which intersect
through the middle of town. There are over 20,000 acres for preservation
and recreational purposes. The city encompasses more than 135 square
miles in the center of Bernalillo County, a county nearly as large as
the entire state of Rhode Island. The elevation of the City, like Denver,
is around a mile high; the elevation at the top of the Sandia Mountains
is 10,678 feet above sea level.
